Located along the Keelung River, Shifen Old Street is the most bustling hometown of sky lanterns on the Pingxi Line. The railway tracks cut right through the center of the street, lined with old shops hanging vibrant lanterns. Whenever a train slowly passes by, the iconic sight of visitors pressing against the storefronts to make way becomes a classic moment.
Must-Do Experiences:
- Release Sky Lanterns: Write your wishes by hand and watch the paper lanterns carry your hopes into the sky.
- Jingan Suspension Bridge: Stroll across this century-old iron cable bridge and look down at the blue-green waters of the Keelung River.
- Shifen Waterfall: A 15-minute walk brings you to the majestic water curtain of "Taiwan's Niagara Falls."
Tips:
- Accessible via multiple daily trains on the Pingxi Line.
- Highly recommended to combine with nearby Badouzi and Pingxi for a day trip.
- Releasing lanterns at dusk offers the most beautiful lighting, but be sure to check the train schedule.
